also like protocol-wise I don't really care which one succeeds as long as it benefits people, we're all on the same side

I do think every protocol has kicked the can in different ways surrounding moderation/spam issues and I think that's an important space for cross-protocol collab.

My uneducated guess is that nostr treats relays as a dumb tube that clients listen to and thus any signed message is treated like an opaque packet (that sort of explains the numbering scheme too). I could be wrong but lexicons feel like they are describing RPC like here is the path + args to get $X.
December 29, 2025 at 5:56 PM
I would agree that at least implementing a nostr relay is much simpler, running an ATP relay is easier now that they aren't archival (compare.hose.cam) but ATP is still more complex (& did:plc has issues) b/c of design choices.

It's a tradeoff b/c that upfront complexity makes some things easier.

atproto.com/specs/lexico... for details

and some tools for viewing/resolving lexicons and records that use certain lexicons:
lexidex.bsky.dev (very WIP, slightly broken)

Like even though nostr is more "decentralized" than ATP/AP it seems like there need to be more out of band coordination so people know about different kinds services might use (unless there is a in protocol discovery mechanism)? Not familiar enough with AP but in atp lexicon resolution is possible.
December 29, 2025 at 5:35 PM
Why is there a difference in how nostr vs. atproto + AP is described, with Nostr it's these "kinds" with a certain schema description proposed by an improvement proposal
and with atp and ap it's a DSL schema language (Lexicon and json-ld activities)? Is it inspired from SSB or b/c protocol design?

it's amusing talking to someone from South Korea reacting to the rise of manhwas like Solo Leveling b/c it's like yeah I read webtoons when I was younger... wait why are adult Americans so into this?

yeah sorry more specifically it has a NIP for notes which are lightning payment receipts which is not really the same as running lightning nodes... more like sending an email receipt.
December 28, 2025 at 1:24 AM
my bad, here's the cashu mention (I actually mute any mentions of crypto so I didn't see it :P ):
witchsky.app/profile/did:...

but as the following comments mention, Cashu doesn't have to use crypto, it can use fiat. And the original article writes "building non-crypto 'multi-signature wallets'"
Leveraging the Cashu protocol (Chaumian E-cash with double blind signatures) and integrating with a regulated banking partner.

Alternative mints could be ran using cryptocurrency but we (Blacksky Algorithms) won’t be running one. Ours will only be USD.

I’ll be publishing a spec for comment/review

yeah I misspoke
December 28, 2025 at 12:07 AM
oh interesting, thanks!
December 28, 2025 at 12:07 AM
...but that would require people to read the article 😉
I'm kidding and thanks for the important clarification.

ctrl+F "Cashu" [1] also doesn't appear in the article so idk where that later comment came from in the original thread.

*Bluesky user nods sympathetically* 🫂
December 27, 2025 at 11:51 PM
Also I swear people forget that nostr is the protocol with lightning payments baked in and has a large community of BTC maximalists.

If anything Bluesky+atproto is the forgotten stepchild of Jack Dorsey and Nostr is his favorite nephew he spends all his time with (ex: giving $10mil to its creator).

yeah, like at worst if something goes wrong this specifically a Blacksky project, crypto/blockchains are not in the ATProto spec and this could be done w/ AP as well.

Rudy has shown through his actions to one of the best leaders in this space and even though I'm not into crypto I trust him.

There some situations in Polish where repeating the same word has some kind of sound change like w/ numbers I think? My knowledge of grammar/phonotactics is very minimal but I remember an example when saying the same number twice there's a difference in the second word.

no people have been annoyed about that blocking style for a while, Kuba has a nice tool to see the whole thread: blue.mackuba.eu/skythread/

I use this extension: github.com/aliceisjustp... so it's a one click button from any thread to skythread
