some good discourse on kimchi-tiktok today cancelling some white dude who's claiming to have invented the hot pot shot cube. Nothing like a bit of good old fashioned cultural appropriation as a pallet cleanser to distract me from the global peadophile ring

You’re not crazy. The anti-trans movement is not organic; it was funded by pedophilic billionaires like Jeffrey Epstein who backed a network of conservatives to accuse the same people they were sexually abusing of being the real danger. @madycast.com exposes the truth in our in-depth report.
Epstein Backed ‘Billionaires’ Dinner’ Network of Prominent Anti-Trans Figures
Lawrence Krauss, Richard Dawkins, Steven Pinker and other anti-trans influencers personally benefited from a right-wing academic social group backed by infamous human trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, somet...

Derek kens "Should we really be placing ourselves in a constant state of ‘nothing can ever happen’ out of political malice? Seems an unnecessary resignation to misery and blind pessimism."

Thing that annoys me most when speaking about BI is this very attitude

A monthly basic income for artists working in Scotland? What a marvellous idea
After the success of the Basic Income for the Arts scheme in Ireland, it is a no-brainer that Scotland follows the same path, writes Derek McArthur.

sorry to telegraph share on main but I couldn't resist a possible hate read of this thinking it would be an "artists could have UBI only if they stick to their silly art and no politics!" argument but hilariously they come out in favour of it with one condition - that there are no conditions.

New BINS newsletter with lots about Basic Income for Artists: upcoming events in Edinburgh and Glasgow, pilot scheme in Ireland, @aileanbeaton.bsky.social BBC piece where @angusrobertson.bsky.social says "looking into" Basic Income, and a big fat nerdy blog from me

Been waiting for this one for ages. Found the part about "the bouncer noise" communicating something very specific without clear words especially interesting. Would say the Scottish/UK version sounds something more akin to "can you make your way to door please" but sounds very similar

I quite often miss the glory days of pandemic twitter when I used to ramble about basic income and also posted dumb music memes but need to grow up and accept those days are over and start writing boring substacks which no one will read and ultimately won't progress my career or make me happy

Gradually coming to accept that Stars of the Lid could be the goat - their music genuinely makes me feel emotions I'm not sure are possible to express through language. RIP Brian.

Reckon that new Joanne Robertson is gonna be my go-to sad boi autumn album. Two tracks already out are fantastic.

Took me a while to put my finger on what it reminded me of but the bass line on the new tame impala tune sounds like it's taken straight from an early Pantha du Prince record

Great little dessert island political organising literature @medicinered.bsky.social

Funny how Corbyn era 1.0 was "JC, no surrender, 4 day week and a 3 day bender " and now it's "JC, no surrender, stop enabling a literal genocide".

"statutory guidance for governing bodies" - you don't say. Actual government department using the dodgy as fuck supreme court ruling to carte blanche undermine trans rights further with no evidential basis. Denying something exists in sex ed has always gone so well in the past eh?
🆕🚨 New statutory Relationships and Sex Education guidance published today will:

- Restrict schools from using materials that "encourage pupils to question their gender"
- Teaches children the laws about "biological sex"
- Removes all references to the word transgender

Albums from the last week.

Check out Duncan Gray's back-catalogue if you fancy some low bpm chuggy/mutant disco type stuff. Sound of the summer.

The tracks 'Proper Bogan' and 'The Weak Nuclear Force' particular highlights for moi

matt healys "no politics just vibes" spiel coked off his nut last night was one of the most embarrassing things I've ever witnessed in my life. Imagine being at the pyramid stage at Glastonbury and not hearing a single cheer

That Lauer album really is a modern classic for me. Been a while since listened to all the remixes which are also great. Still a bit obsessed with that king creosote album for my sins.
