It suits the Govt for Luxon not to know
November 25, 2025 at 9:17 AM
Can't see your 2nd point. They don't like big powerful councils. With lots of small local councils, the Govt will reserve transport and most other planning for itself. It has already overridden regional transport plans with RONS
November 25, 2025 at 9:15 AM
Apart from the hated RMA functions, it ignores all other regional tasks eg biosecurity, maritime, flood protection. It's incredibly stupid.
November 25, 2025 at 9:10 AM
The Govt wants to gut environmental protection. It also doesn't want strong councils. If it did it would create unitaries. It wants weak supplicant bodies and central control. This is authoritarian AF.

Yep. Now try Soviet Snow. An incredibly fertile period for Shona

They're both playing to their respective audiences, and the frightening thing is they're both profiting from it

The cruel logic for Trump to fail to stop the war to date becomes obvious. The weaker Ukraine is, the more concessions Trump can demand to profit from what's left of it. He's a war criminal already

It's 2 good bowling sides playing 2 poor batting sides. Realistically neither team have 3 good in-form batsmen.

Hmm, a lot like NZ

$660M
November 21, 2025 at 7:39 AM
Would never happen. Peters is their only asset. Jones has never been elected to anything in his life. Spent $660min PGF in home patch Northland and came 3rd with 11% of the vote

It's a grave tactical mistake to confuse narcissistic evil with insanity. And an injustice to the insane. He doesn't belong in an asylum. He belongs in jail

MPI funded PF2050, now ended. No extra budget given to DOC who is earnestly trying to get regional councils to fund. Some might. Others have fully integrated pest programs already. And a government telling them to cut rates!

Different matter, but new tech will soon make it easy to kill cats feral or otherwise. Predict night-only suburban activation to force cats indoors at night. Also all cats at all times in high conservation areas. Responsible cat ownership can't be forced by persuasion but can be by technology
November 20, 2025 at 7:32 PM
Yeah but that's not the point. PF2050 did deliver albeit very expensively. But it was separately funded. Now handed to DOC with no funding at all. So DOC will have to kill it or other more strategic programs

Most of their changes can be undone, albeit with lives lost and damaged, ecosystems destroyed and the climate further stuffed. But asset sales are more difficult to reverse. We need to stop them and/or warn prospective buyers that they risk renationalisation with no profit

I'd like to see data and research on spousal assault and abuse by NZ police. I personally know of 2 men who turned from ok to wife beaters after joining the force. The whole culture is suspect AF

This is our future now.
Switching platforms at increasing regularity

Like forcing student bus fares up, throwing people out of emergency accommodation, long waits in hospital EDs, etc etc. Cruelty is a deliberate feature
November 20, 2025 at 12:00 AM
Yep. Not only by using science, intelligent planning and empathy, but also recognising that anthropocentrism is inherently selfish and incompatible with any sustainable future
November 19, 2025 at 8:27 PM
What l would say to you is that absolutely isn't a definitive term. I'm comfortable with that. Laser focused on it
