Independent game developer focused mainly on programming, but learning a lot more too! Currently on my self improvement arc.

Hey there! I'm Josiah, and I'm starting my journey to become an indie game developer. I already have experience programming, so the main goal for now is to learn to draw my own assets.

I'll mainly be posting my progress and gaming opinions, so I hope some people find that interesting!
On a more game design related note. Western RPG (and JRPG to an extent) is such an awful game genre categorisation. Basing it on story structure kind of works, but the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3 are in the same genre despite being radically different play experiences is kinda crazy

I had an entire discussion about the size of Batman's ears and it is only now sinking in how much of a massive nerd that makes me...

(Longer ear designs make his silhouette more exaggerated which enhances intimidation factor when he's in the shadows, but makes him look goofier in the light btw)

#learntodrawin30days Day 7. A week in and I'm actually furious at how much better using your arm to draw circles actually is. Now I have to change my entire art posture to take advantage of this.

Since Lorwyn just released on arena I was going to make a post talking about my dislike of commander as a format, but I've finally managed to track down a local store that does EDH nights so I have to try it before I go on my boomer rant.

That could make for an interesting youtube video though...

Bit of a long post but its game design thoughts so I hope it's interesting.

Been replaying Elden Ring recently and I think the way they reveal the world map to you is so awesome. When you're starting out, the map is just focused on the first couple areas and yeah, its pretty packed.

Day 6 art! A lot of cubes today, I think I've done perspective decently.

Didn't have time to do one yesterday, so here's day 4 and 5 of the Marc Brunet #learntodrawin30days challenge. Started trying a slightly thinner pen size and I think 5pix feels a bit nicer than 10.

#learntodrawin30days Day 3 challenge. I've been doing the previous ones as a little warmup too, but I think I can do cylinder perspective to an okay level?

I kinda wish there was a little more elaboration on what is being practiced for each exercise, but I'll trust the process.

I got way too high concept with my idea for a potential project yesterday. As much as I love card games, roguelike deckbuilders are a massive project to plan out and make.

So instead, get ready for The Horrible Little Goblin Game where you are a horrible little goblin that picks stuff up.

Day 2 of the #learntodrawin30days exercises. Already hitting the edge of my pre-existing art knowledge, The challenge is just to give random shapes thickness but I think I need to practice my perspective some more. (Though looking ahead that's what the next few days exercises are)

I made this account because I was so anxious about making no progress after graduating that I couldn't sleep, but now I'm up all night thinking about this lol.

Also realised that Unity learn isn't helpful at all for my level, so small projects it is. I've been in a Magic mood recently and Lorwyn is coming out, so might look into some kind of deckbuilder.

Inventory management is something I've wanted to figure out for a while, so could be fun.

Starting my art practice with a Marc Brunet tutorial I thought looked decent. My first go at drawing a skull in 10 minutes (though the timer was muted so it might have gone over a little) and the first task.

Weirdly fun just to sit down and practice drawing, it helped my posture and pen control.
