A churchy, Black, Southern, and pretty witty devastating diva. My hobbies are hollering and gathering. Lead with compassion and authenticity and we'll get along just fine.
Book 70: Fortune & Fame (Victoria C. Murray & ReShonda T. Billingsley)

Physical book. A hot MESS of a book. Truly like reading a reality show in real time. A lot of delusion, collusion, and scheming, chile. No real first ladies in my mind--Mae Frances is my girl, tho. Great palate cleanser! 🤣

If they never check it, they don't gaf about nothing we're sending them! And if they keep NOT checking it, we'll be back to this same problem before long.

Iono about that soft spot. I like the music, the melody is really nice...but I'm drawn to feistiness and spiciness. Be sweet at your core, but don't be a bland sweet.

A whole sermon. That hussy was SPITTIN!

Book 69: River of Silver (SA Chakraborty)

Physical book. I struggled to care. The new perspectives were cool, but the disjointed timeline/narrative with minimal insights was meh. The alternative epilogue(s) were most fascinating. A good scam, though, publishing your cut material.

Very relatable lyrical content.

Because I refuse to give more money to that lady (and also had no time to go scarf shopping), I've been telling people I'm the knockoff Lee Jordan and am at Hogwarts on financial aid.

We're also Team Ravenclaw over here.

Book 68: Empire of Gold (SA Chakraborty)

Physical book. BAYBEH! An ending! I laughed, I cried, I was stressed, I forewent sleep... Not the ending I wanted, but a strong and believable conclusion to the trilogy. Still forever fuck Manizheh. She's a lying, amoral, manipulative wainch.

Book 67: Kingdom of Copper (SA Chakraborty)

Physical book. Definitely a solid transitional book, exploring elements introduced in the foundation and guiding us/building up the tension for book 3. It's forever fuck Manizheh. Loved Dara down, but found his perspectives interruptive and naive.

Book 66: Five Carat Soul (James McBride)

Physical book. Truly a collection of James' fever dreams. Twas a struggle to complete--and I usually like short story vols (thank God for book club deadlines). Definitely some interesting notions to consider. I think he has a yt savior complex, though. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Book 65: Baby Brother's Blues (Pearl Cleage)

Audiobook. Wayyyyy too many characters for an audiobook. Overall a solid story, but after a while I questioned the need for so much interweaving. Baby Brother is raggedy so-and-so. Kwame too, low key.

Spinelli growing up to pastor is amusing the mess outta me. 🤣🤣🤣

Book 64: The City Of Brass (S.A. Chakraborty)

Physical book. Took me a minute, but LOCKED TF IN!! Baby, this love triangle between Nahri, Dara, and Ali--but low key with Ghassan in the mix too??? Girl, what is we gon' do?? My guy Khayzur's in the mix! And the po' shafit... Book 2 loading!

Book 63: These Heathens (Mia McKenzie)

Audiobook. A unique take on a coming of age tale with a historical fictional flare, I enjoyed experiencing Atlanta and both self- and sexual-awakenings for the 1st time w/ Doris. (Also amusing that's her name after reading Doris Payne's book.) Solid story.

Book 62: The Mis-Education of The Negro (Carter G. Woodson)

Audiobook. Uncanny--and a bit disheartening--how much of what he addressed is still relevant today. A bit pretentious of a writing style, so I shut down/got distracted at times. But, overall, a solid commentary & convo starter.

Apparently. It fits, honestly.

Book 61: The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi (Shannon Chakraborty)

Physical Book. GIRL-A! A story! I breezed through my girl's tale. Lots of adventure, lush detail, all the levels & layers, acerbic wit--I could go on forever, baby! Can hardly wait for May(?) 2026. (That man's name is Frank 2 ME)

Book 60: Let Me Please You (Alexandria House)

Audiobook. Mid/cute. Pacing could be tweaked a bit, but overall I liked the pairing. The man reading Tommie's voice was...perfectly cast. My Lord.

Book 59: Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned (Walter Mosley)

Audiobook. Had some poignant points, and probably initiates some crucial conversations. But, distracted as I was, the thread kept losing me. Almost didn't make it.

And another one. Sis be subtly snapping.

Book 58: Diamond Doris (Doris Payne)

Audiobook. Doris is fullashit. 🤣 But she is funny af. A most entertaining story, enlightening to the extent I learned how easy it is to get a passport in the UK. Damnit if Doris doesn't keep things interesting. Gotta give her her props too.
