Reminds me of the reviewer who yelled at me for calling colonialism a burden.
1/5 It was entirely predictable that The Telegraph would jump on @DavidOlusoga’s Empire series to fight its right wing culture war for control of our public history. Let’s see what they’ve done:

I’m told this is fabulous so I booked tickets (it’s free!). Anyone else up for a bit of medieval Nubia and robes? If so, see you there :-)

He fell asleep while being Big Mad at me. (I sneezed and that disturbed his humours). #cats 😺

Oh this is interesting. The Nature paper on her was interesting tho didn’t quite get into the old boys’ club thing. But this is really interesting - good to learn more about her and her record. Thank you!
I am seeing a lot of posts about Rosalind Franklin that themselves ignore her publication record on DNA!

In fact Franklin and Gosling's paper, including the famous Photograph #51, was published, along with Wilkins's paper, back-to-back with the Watson and Crick paper in Nature in 1953.

Just finished watching this. It’s excellent and I hope there’s another series.
So I’m watching Empire by @davidolusoga.bsky.social and I made the mistake of checking it out on Twitter. Noped out of there so fast. Anyways cracking first episode so far. Definitely worth a watch.

Hey folks, as news of Watson's demise spreads, please don't set aside his weighty legacy of misogyny and racism. He was truly among the worst of us. www.vox.com/2019/1/15/18...
DNA scientist James Watson has a remarkably long history of sexist, racist public comments
“People say it would be terrible if we made all girls pretty,” he said in 2003. “I think it would be great.”

You can edit these yourself IF you wish. To view the settings, follow the path:

Very important thread if you've never tinkered with the moderation settings.

Half the point of Bluesky as a social media platform is having control over your algorithm(s), after all.
Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

Watching the world burn from fires you’ve started is at the heart of British policy. Colonialism - it never goes away. Ever. #Sudan

Here’s the bones, l-għadam tal-mejtin, the bones of the dead. On All Souls’ Day we remember our departed. Some people like a thick coat of icing on these but I hate icing. And anyway this looks more like buried bones 🙂

I’ve often said that editors need to do better and be better (and got flack for it). But you do. It’s your job. This is a masterclass of a reply btw.
"The strength of language that Jones and Collinson used, which includes referring to our work as ‘naïve’, ‘bizarre’, ‘damagingly serious’, ‘reckless’, ‘not defensible’ and ‘crude’, would be considered by many to be unacceptable in modern scientific discourse." 🤯
This Discussion-Reply is WILD

As pointed out in the Reply, the language used in the Discussion is 100% inappropriate and in my view, a failure of the editorial process

Did anyone else watch and fall in love with Riot Women on BBC?

Folks. Can you point me towards published work on women in archaeology/ academia being trolled/ harassed online for their research? I appreciate it’s mega hard 2 write abt & most of us stay silent. I know we all have war stories. I wonder about published research on this.
