Recent drawings of carnosaurs - Yangchuanosaurus, Allosaurus, Carcharodontosaurus, Megalosaurus. #dinosaurs #palaeoart

New drawing of one of my favourite #dinosaurs, Yangchuanosaurus shangyouensis. This is a portrayal of the adult specimen rather than the better known subadult, and is huge for a Jurassic theropod, at least 10 m long. There is an homage to a classic piece of #palaeoart here; IYKYK.

Hi #PortfolioDay, I am a palaeo / wildlife traditional artist and use stippling / pointillism for ink drawings. Here are a few recent drawings: @palaeoart 'dinosaur @fish

New drawing of Early Jurassic #plesiosaur #Rhomaleosaurus. This was a big predator, around 7 m long (comparable to an orca). Rhomaleosaurs had shorter necks and larger skulls than many plesiosaurs, but were not as big-headed and short-necked as more derived pliosaurids like Kronosaurus. #palaeoart

New drawing of one of the best known specimens of Allosaurus fragilis. #dinosaur #palaeoart

Some postcards for #DinoCon. Next week!

#WIP drawing of the #Allosaurus fragilis neotype, one of the best known individuals of one of the best known #dinosaurs. #palaeoart

Repost of some recent #palaeoart drawings. I hope I will see some of you from Bluesky at #DinoCon (Table 15 in the vendorhall).I will be selling original drawings and postcards. #dinosaurs

Recent #dinosaur #palaeoart and wildlife art - Xinjiangtitan, Megalosaurus, Carcharodontosaurus, white shark and swordfish.

The Middle #Jurassic mamenchisaur Xinjiangtitan. This astonishingly proportioned #sauropod is known from a partial skeleton with an incredibly complete vertebral column. It has the longest articulated neck known for any animal, maybe ~ 13.5 m out of a total length of ~ 28 m. #dinosaur #palaeoart 1/2

New drawing of Megalosaurus, a big theropod that was the first #dinosaur genus to be named (back in 1824). I have reconstructed it with a bold facial pattern enhanced by a midline nasal crest. 1/2 #palaeoart

I am happy to say I will be a vendor at #DinoCon this August, offering art including original drawings. I hope to see some of you there!

In my opinion, most palaeoart of megalosaurs and spinosaurs understates the bizarre arm proportions - in this drawing of Megalosaurus, I tried to draw attention to the combination of big hands and claws with a ridiculously stumpy forearm. END OF THREAD #palaeoart #dinosaur
May 11, 2025 at 8:22 AM
The arms of an allosaur, megalosaur and spinosaur, scaled to the same humeral length for easier comparison of proportions. This is my first attempt at a skeletal drawing and there are things I would do differently next time, but it shows the main thing I wanted to show - 1/n #dinosaur #palaeoart

A selection of #palaeoart for #FossilFriday - giant pachycormid fish Bonnerichthys and Protosphyraena, basal tyrannosauroid Guanlong, giant hyaena Pachycrocuta, and huge carnosaur Carcharodontosaurus.

Linework for Carcharodontosaurus drawing. Will hopefully get this stippled soon. #palaeoart

Very pleased with this Megalosaurus model that arrived recently from @rubrennanart.bsky.social. It is amazing how well the small details hold up. It's a beautiful sculpt, with an interesting pose and up to date anatomy. Note in particular the face and lips / teeth /inside of the mouth. #palaeoart

I'm quite pleased with this drawing representing early grades of #cetacean #evolution. From top down we have Pakicetus, Ambulocetus, Aegicetus and Dorudon, drawn to scale. Pakicetus and Dorudon are relatively easy to reconstruct in a believable looking way - the others not so much. 1/2 #palaeoart

An old drawing of the basal therizinosaur Falcarius. This was a slender animal compared to the bulkier later therizinosaurs, and I have depicted it standing in a tripodal posture. Note the hand claws, which are huge and would presumably have been useful for defence and social combat.

My drawing of the basal sabretooth cat, Yoshi minor (or Metailurus parvulus). This species was about the size of a large lynx and lived in the Late Miocene, around 9 MYA. It was a leggy, small skulled animal that bore little resemblance to the big, famous sabretooths like Smilodon. #palaeoart

The basal dinosauriform Marasuchus lived about 235 million years ago. This small, gracile animal with very elongated hindlimbs is probably a pretty good approximation of what the ancestors of #dinosaurs looked like. It is unknown whether they would have had filamentous integument. #palaeoart

Sharpened up drawing of the giant ceratopsid Triceratops horridus. #palaeoart #dinosaur
