Dal 14 marzo al 23 agosto 2026, la Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi presenta **una delle più importanti mostre mai dedicate a Mark Rothko** (1903-1970), indiscusso maestro dell’arte moderna americana. A cura di Christopher Rothko ed Elena Geuna, _Rothko a Firenze_ rappresenta un progetto unico, concepito appositamente per Palazzo Strozzi, per celebrare il legame speciale tra l’artista e Firenze. L’architettura del palazzo e la città stessa sono lo scenario ideale per esplorare come Rothko traduca in pittura la tensione tra misura classica e libertà espressiva, dando vita attraverso il colore a una nuova percezione dello spazio che oltrepassa la bidimensionalità della tela. Il **percorso espositivo a Palazzo Strozzi** permette di ripercorrere l’intera carriera di Rothko con oltre 70 opere provenienti da prestigiose collezioni private e dai più importanti musei internazionali, tra cui il Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) e il Metropolitan Museum of Art di New York, la Tate di Londra, il Centre national d’art et de culture Georges-Pompidou di Parigi e la National Gallery of Art di Washington. Da Palazzo Strozzi il **progetto si estende poi alla città di Firenze** , coinvolgendo due luoghi particolarmente cari all’artista in due sezioni satellite: il **Museo di San Marco** , con opere in dialogo con gli affreschi di Beato Angelico, e il Vestibolo della **Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana** progettato da Michelangelo.
