I’m just waiting to see who emerges as the Lee Saracen figure once Buzz gets bumped.

Might have to check this one out. Just finished another of his books.

Good man. I think I was out two months earlier with full deactivation. I don’t understand the “stopped using it, but I log back in occasionally just to check” folks.

Glad that’s one Happy Ending.

Yeah, but the xG was amazing!

But you are right in that it’s not a great look for MLS when someone being touted as one of its greatest coaches puts together the worst 8-game run in Celtic’s history at a time when they have 5-20x larger budget than all but one domestic opponent because of a calamitous series of decisions.
January 6, 2026 at 2:46 AM
Well.. Celtic, not me. And it’s not so much been purchased as been cemented by bigger clubs capturing the bulk of broadcast revenue over the past 35 years. All of which should make it far easier for any mediocre manager to win at Celtic. (See Wim Jansen, John Barnes, Neil Lennon, Ronny Deila).
January 6, 2026 at 2:42 AM
In the last decade, Celtic have won 9 league titles plus 14 domestic cups. Their budget is 5-20 times larger than all but one of their domestic rivals. They didn’t need to build a winning system. They had one… until 33 days ago.

Perfect cyclocross conditions.

French football man,
This is your last game,
We’re not some MLS franchise…

MLS operates in a bubble. It’s possible for someone to step out of it and find success, but it’s a long shot given the chasm in intensity between “sports-entertainment” and what the rest of the world plays.
January 5, 2026 at 8:57 PM
Why do so many people not realize that the job of a manager is quite simply to get the best results based on the resources at their disposal?

“As long as we make playoffs…”
January 3, 2026 at 4:07 PM
No need to confiscate them. People simply need to stop playing them.

Without the healthcare.

Omar El Akkad’s book is essential reading in these times. 👍

Not surprised.
December 21, 2025 at 6:35 PM
You say in jest… but I’ll never forget one former MLS writer Tweeting that he thought he had, in some way, helped David Beckham to win MLS Cup with the LA Galaxy. 🙈

It’s a sports-entertainment vehicle operating entirely outside the global football ecosystem. Season doesn’t matter until playoffs. Just a bunch of inter-departmental exhibition games. Not to say someone can’t leave it and be successful elsewhere, but it’s a long shot given the step-up in intensity.
