Creativity Helps Kids Heal 🎨

In TF-CBT, therapists are encouraged to engage children through art, play, and other creative approaches. Making the process appealing helps children participate more fully and makes therapy more effective.

Exposure therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all.
In TF-CBT, exposure may happen through talking, writing, drawing—or even song lyrics for kids who express through music. The key is finding what feels safe and manageable.

Why exposure therapy looks different for kids 💞
In TF-CBT, exposure is gradual—starting with education and therapist modeling, not immediate trauma narration. Gentle pacing builds trust and readiness before going deeper.

TF-CBT unfolds in 3 phases:
1️⃣ Stabilization & Skill Building – learning coping tools.
2️⃣ Trauma Narration & Processing – working through experiences.
3️⃣ Consolidation & Integration – applying insights to daily life.

💞 Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) helps children and teens heal from trauma—and supports caregivers coping with their own stress. Healing is strongest when everyone in the family has tools to recover.

From “challenge” to “explore” — CPT’s language is evolving.
💬 “No more ‘faulty thinking’ or ‘challenge’ questions.”
Now it’s about exploring thoughts with compassion. ✨
The new manual also adds a chapter on case conceptualization—tailoring care to each client.

Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all.
The new CPT manual drops the rigid 12-session model—for a reason.
💬 “Dragging people to 12 sessions when they’re already done? That’s when they start disappearing.”
Need more time? It’s not a failure—it’s a clue.

Not all dropouts are failures.
In some CPT studies, a third of dropouts had already improved.
💬 “They didn’t care it was research—they were just done. Weekly data showed they’d reached a good end state.”
Sometimes people leave because therapy worked.

Who’s CPT for? Almost everyone with PTSD. 💡
It’s been used with civilians, service members, teens, and across cultures.
💬 “We just keep trying it with different groups… maybe the better question is: who isn’t CPT for?”
A proven, flexible trauma treatment.
