💙📚 I read over 100 books a year but it was this book from 2014 that has given me the most visceral and emotional reaction ever.

Why has @johnboynewriter.bsky.social not been nominated for a Booker prize?

There's no comparison between this book and Flesh, the 2025 winner.

Invisible over 60?

It's hard to be invisible wearing purple in a sea of grey and black. But actually, is invisibility a bad thing? It tends to strike in bars and cafes when I'm waiting to be served. Younger people get preferential treatment. What do you think?

Shani Wallis was a wonderful Nancy in the Lionel Bart film Oliver!

But although the film had 11 Oscar nominations, the British born actress wasn't among them, thanks to misogyny.

I'm watching it now, I never tire of this film. Shani is now 92.
