Abby Dog the Despoiler says hello. Ear scritches are available whenever you like. You just have to pop over to LA!

The exception to the "plinth not necessary" thing is squads and Necromunda gangs etc. you need some kind of movement tray with their own individual slots, imo. It should be modeled to match their bases. Not really a plinth as such, and can be pretty flat for ease of transport.

A background isn't necessary either. The advantage is that you control the colour behind the model, and therefore the colours on the model read true to your original vision. Downsides are 1) again, it has to be on par with the model and 2) it hinders the judges seeing the back of the model.

As long as the base is an appropriate size (which as a rule of thumb can be one size bigger than the base the model comes on) and it's well executed, you don't need a plinth. Certainly not a huge one. A badly done base will definitely ding you. It needs to be at/close to the standard of the model.

My son had RSV at six weeks old. An absolutely terrifying five nights at UCLA. He could have been spared that (and we could have been spared an $80K medical bill which our insurance didn't fully cover). These people are monsters.

Thank you! It's a combination of GW paints (Mordant Earth, Stirland Mud, Typhus Corrosion). I prime the model, then paint these three on in different ratios. With practice you get a feel for how it will look. I practiced on spoons and PB jar lids. When they're dry, I paint the model as normal.

I completely agree. A lesson I learned the hard way. My wife and I celebrated our 12 year anniversary yesterday. Those 12 years have been more joyful and easier than all my previous relationships out together.

Sounds about right!

Reign of Fire is a permanent fixture of the AdeptiCon SprayTeam weekend playlist. I must have watched it six times just at SprayTeam.

This. As often as not, my wife and I are perfectly content to each do our separate hobbies side by side. She cultivates her plants, I paint my models. Sometimes we just curl up together and quietly read. Ideal relationship as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks Olli, that means a lot!

How about some rusty Iron Hands that survived Isstvan?
December 5, 2025 at 4:10 PM
I suspected as much. It would have been a miracle to completely capture the magic of the first. I'm glad it's still worth a watch. I'll add it to my Xmas watch list. Thanks Danie!

I loved the original! I'd love to hear if you think the sequel holds up.
December 4, 2025 at 8:31 PM
I noticed that yesterday! It really bothered me.

I'm so, so sorry to hear this Ian. It's heartbreaking.

I think it looks great. And I think GW is doing a much better job of showing what achievable paint jobs by real people look like.

We've both been around long enough to remember when their guides were basically:

1. Base coat
2. Wash
3. Finish to Golden Demon standard

Teenage me was so frustrated!😂

Agreed. Same thing happens with Heresy. 98% of HH players are greybeards who appreciate very high quality hobby and have no patience for 40K competitiveness. But at every event there's that one guy...

At AdeptiCon this is mitigated by offering prizes for anything BUT winning games.

This has been banned in the UK, you posh bugger. I'm calling PETA! 😂

I always thought it included a chain, but my source for this is playing the OG Castlevania when I was eight. I'm not sure this would pass peer review, now that I think about it.
