Cycleway, my arse!
@issaddlethereis.bsky.social
Often ranting about TfL's worst Cycleway (#Cycleway1). Tens of thousands of potential cycle journeys are lost every day because huge compromise were made.
Fore Lane Cycleway closed again! @squarehighways.bsky.social, would it kill the contractors to at least put up some advanced signage for people using the supposed Cycleway so they can use alternative routes? This seems like really poor planning.

If you've fooled yourself into "having to" drive a car, then please show some patience. If you can't, then don't drive on a f*ck!ng Cycleway! #Cycleway1

Anyone know what's up with the signal phases at the Balls Pond Rd / Culford Rd junction of #Cycleway1? The general traffic lanes are getting two phases on green, before cycles get a green. @islington-council.bsky.social @hackneycouncil.bsky.social @cycleislington.uk @hackneylcc.bsky.social?

And this is exactly why we should drive/ride slowly through residential streets.

Good to see the article making this clear distinction. Would be interesting to delve further into this @rosslydall.bsky.social and question the use of a TfL funded Cycleway that offers no protection from motor vehicles. More than 95% of #Cycleway1 is unprotected from motor vehicles for instance.

Really not looking forward to these puddles turning into dangerous patches of ice when much colder weather comes. Keep reporting this to @hackneycouncil.bsky.social and nothing is ever done. #Cycleway1 on West Bank. @hackneylcc.bsky.social

These are Haringey Council's 2025 cycling achievements:

- installed huge barriers in an alleyway on #Cycleway1, creating further conflict between people cycling and walking.

- installed loads of bollards directly onto the Markfield Rd cycle tracks.

Take a bow @mikehakata.bsky.social!

Oh joy. Another long queue of cars and vans on our street due to something involving a car or van somewhere miles away no doubt. Will this madness never end? The car is the worst mode of transport ever invented for urban travel.
December 7, 2025 at 2:07 PM
Just when you thought #Cycleway1 couldn’t get any worse! It was awful enough that the route takes us through a seedy alleyway, but Haringey Council thought it would go one further and install these barriers!!! Good luck to cargo bike riders. Depressing. @willnorman.co.uk @mikehakata.bsky.social

It has to be said that when I cycle to places with my son, most drivers tend to be very polite and patient. But we still encounter drivers like this all too often, who can't even be bothered to follow simple rules.
December 4, 2025 at 12:33 PM
A different angle of the latest victim of the car dominated streets on #Cycleway1. So reassuring, right?
December 4, 2025 at 11:48 AM
Why in 2025, with all that we know about designing safer junctions, are councils like Haringey still building roads with huge flared turns, and low paving, thus encourages speeding? @mikehakata.bsky.social, there's little point painting bicycles on the road when this is happening!
December 3, 2025 at 9:57 AM
What are the chances that @telegraph.co.uk has got this wrong again, and that it wasn't in fact an "e-bike", but an electric motorbike? Any chance to demonise EAPCs!
December 3, 2025 at 9:36 AM
The fact that this common sense idea is considered "radical" shows we still have a long way to go on normalising cycling in London.
December 2, 2025 at 2:42 PM
The crap we have to put up with on #Cycleway1 beggars belief. Are you seriously happy with this @hackneycouncil.bsky.social @willnorman.co.uk?
December 2, 2025 at 1:50 PM
Spotting yet another bit of street furniture that's been demolished by a driver on #Cycleway1 is not at all reassuring. Pitfield Street. Can someone please fix
@hackneycouncil.bsky.social @willnorman.co.uk.
December 2, 2025 at 1:49 PM
This is what happens when every cyclist waits for the lights to turn green. They make it through, but the drivers behind don't. Not complaining! #Cycleway1
December 2, 2025 at 1:35 PM
A good representation of the cost of cycle infra versus car infra. About 5x the cost for the same distance and worse value for money.
December 2, 2025 at 10:23 AM
Sounds great. And it mostly is. But in reality, some of TfL's Cycleways look like this.
December 1, 2025 at 5:23 PM
Junctions like this existing in 2025 is a sure sign that something is seriously amiss in politics. Nowhere should rank the flow of cars above people wanting to walk or cycle in their community. @mayoroflondon.bsky.social @willnorman.co.uk @heidialexander.bsky.social #StamfordHill
December 1, 2025 at 2:38 PM
Walter Tull House, a recently completed Haringey Council housing development, with nothing done to combat the car dominated streets surrounding it. And with new car parking bays where a cycle lane could be. Notice the driver cutting the corner by driving on the pavement?
December 1, 2025 at 1:06 PM
Meanwhile, on the A10 next to this route, people wanting to cycle between Tottenham and the City, via Stamford Hill and Stoke Newington could enjoy protected cycle tracks which would be direct, free of cars, more visible, and easy to find and navigate. "Not feasible" my arse!
November 27, 2025 at 12:53 PM
Another ride on the one and only #Cycleway1 route! To quote @willnorman.co.uk: "I do not agree that [C1] is not fit for purpose ... I firmly believe there is a place for back street routes like Cycleway 1 ..." I'm not sure there are many who would agree, what do you think @hackneylcc.bsky.social?
November 27, 2025 at 12:32 PM
A TfL Cycleway should: A) be free of potholes/cracks; B) protect people from maniac drivers like this, who nearly pulled into my front wheel, was speeding and completely obstructed the cycle box at the lights. We've got to do better than this
@willnorman.co.uk @mayoroflondon.bsky.social #Cycleway1
November 27, 2025 at 12:00 PM
Good old #Cycleway1. Driver blocking contraflow lane with parked car and other cars blocking ambulance on emergency call. But at least they've resurfaced the road! Thanks a bunch @hackneycouncil.bsky.social and TfL for this dreadful Cycleway route. This is fit for purpose is it @willnorman.co.uk?
