I don’t know tbh, it was one of those headlines that popped up on my windows discover page and then immediately refreshed

It started with “fact check” so I assume some republican said something

yeah, i wonder. i personally am very distrustful of the psych industry, bc the people i know in it 1. aren’t neurodivergence, and 2. have been the absolute worst to me in terms of ablism and bullying throughout my life, so i truly think the whole system needs to be set on fire

That’s so fair. And I think it’s definitely a spectrum. There are 100% times my adhd is making my life worse (execution disfunction) but other times I don’t notice it, etc

And yeah, neurodiverse and disorder and interchangeable to me, one’s just common use and the other is DSM/medicalized

Like you’re either at your bottom or completely normal with no inbetween

Whereas “disorder” is like… yeah, it’s not perfect up there. It works a little differently than most people. But I’m fine?? Sometimes better or worse, but that’s a me problem??

I didn’t realize I had thoughts on this…

For me… yeah I have ADHD, an ED, and dissociative stuff going on. That impacts my life. I’m disabled, and have to pay attention to my spoons

But I’m fine? Definitely not sick. Actually the best I’ve ever been.

“Mental illness” sounds like the only way for it to be better is to be cured

for me its… think of someone who’s like… an amputee.

you wouldn’t say they have a “physical illness.” They’re not sick, they’re not contagious. They’re fine. Just don’t have a leg.

Yeah, they’re disabled, it effects their life, but being “sick” comes with a stigma that just… isn’t that experience?
