Good question. This is something I saw an article about on LinkedIn a while back and can't now find. It may be related to the PPP program. It's also something done to appear compliant with hiring practices required for government contracts.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation was getting into this back in the 2000s. I don't know if it's bigger than inborn factors, but the social determinants of health play a far bigger role than individual decisions. eg To exercise regularly, you first have to have the time to, and then a safe place to.

And then do.... What exactly?

People are becoming homeless on $20/hour full-time in Los Angeles. And that's still above minimum wage here.

But a 1,000 sq ft two bedroom with a couple and an single person is higher-density than your 500 sq ft studio for one person. What's more sustainable?

We learned during Covid that living alone has some serious disadvantages. Humans are social animals.

Averages are useful, but also hide a lot of data. Who is more likely to have six people living in a multi-generational household? Non-white people. Grandma and her brother can keep the house and take care of the kids, working part-time maybe, while mom, dad, and dad's sister all work. Kids are safe.

The FHA actually considered the model when structuring programs for returning soldiers, but went with the single-family home instead.

During the Material Feminism movement of the early 20th c, burgeoning home automation spawned a vision of multi-family homes with shared kitchens, laundry, and play areas, but private family units. The idea was that out of 4 families, 1 or 2 stay-at-home parents could do everything for all of them.

And public dollars. Because a lot of times those postings are faked because businesses that "are hiring" are eligible for various tax credits or incentives.

Then again, people on unemployment are required to prove they're applying for jobs, so these companies are costing each other money too.

Gorgeous!

I wasn't familiar with this bird so I looked it up. Now I know that there's a "tyrant flycatcher family" and I am a little bit happier with the world. Thank you for sharing!

I mean, there are two solutions to that: format painter, or the nuclear option of just turning off HTML so no font information is sent. I favor the latter.

It might be a good idea for people to become less embarrassed about talking about these things. Everyone over 50 should be doing this. It's a little gross :-) but not shameful or anything.

Keep in mind that Andrew is the King's brother. Charles probably grew up trying to clean up his messes.

OTOH, he disowned his f'ing BROTHER. Harvard can't possibly be more attached to this guy, who has wiped out allllll the cred they got from declining Trump's deal.

I was waiting for Japanese Americans. That's the last time we locked up a bunch of people for being immigrants so that we could steal their stuff, and bragged about how awesome we were for doing it. (Usually we try to keep it on the down-low.)
