This is the actual foundation of what you’re making why would you build it with styrofoam

I don't really want an answer/discussion about this right now – just noting that we often end up having debates at cross-purposes because we don't realise we're not even talking about the same things. 🤷🏻‍♀️

'AI' itself is a nearly useless term now.

What do we mean when we talk about people 'coding' with AI tools?
Are they letting a tool make design decisions, are they using it to generate whole systems, are they using it as a shorthand to paste in familiar sections they don't want to type out, what?
December 16, 2025 at 3:13 PM
Anyway, I suspect this discussion suffers from everyone having a slightly definition of 'coding' in this context.

Designing code ≠ writing code, etc.

I think I'd class that situation as using the AI for creative purposes, because it's leaving the majority of design choices to the generative tools.

Which is less tangible than artwork, etc., but still a creative element.

The idea of someone just prompting 'make Bob jump when I press X', getting a rubbish/unplayable result, and then shipping it anyway is just kind of baffling to me.
December 16, 2025 at 2:53 PM
Oh yeah, that's fair. I guess I'd imagined that even someone doing vibe coding would have an idea of what kind of jump they want, even if they don't understand the maths, and use that as a prompt, and then re-prompt and iterate it until they're satisfied? So there's still design choices being made?

Gamefeel and physics are typically designed by humans before they're created/implemented by coding, though? Designing and iterating those things is a distinct job. The Coders on a game didn't decide how high Mario jumps, a Designer did.

Yes, I'm pretty sure Jon's point is that he strongly disagrees with your opinion in this area.
December 16, 2025 at 2:38 PM
Surely that depends on the purpose of the label? What do people who want AI labelling want it for?

In my experience it's usually because they want to know if the artistic elements were made with generative tools in particular, because they want to consume and support the creativity of humans.

I know it's meant to be bleak, but I tend to prefer the DG stuff that's a bit less depressed too.

I find it amusing that DG almost always turns into dark comedy if played with UK folks. Bureaucracy and misery? Comedy gold.

Thanks!

They are different, but I think of CoC and DG as being a bit like siblings – certainly in the same family in terms of how they work and vibe.

Oh NICE.

One of my favourite Actual Plays (Role Playing Public Radio) did a great campaign of that a little while back.

Why have you been in a DG research hole??
December 16, 2025 at 8:42 AM
Oh thanks! ☺️

I don't think I'm going to be able to look through the entries properly until next week, but I'm looking forward to reading them all!

Just trap yourself in a noisy metal tube for a few hours before the deadline and don't edit your work at all! It's foolproof!
December 15, 2025 at 10:39 PM
Probably not my best work, and it's definitely following the 'first draft, best draft' approach, but I don't hate the concept.

Also, yes, the entire thing is built off a niche RPPR-related joke.
