people who feel this way about sonic fans are incredibly stupid, as they seem to think a fandom is one cohesive mind rather than a collection of thousands/millions of very different minds who take turns being loud about their opinions. they just want to hate a fandom and make up reasons to do it.

i dont agree with it but the pattern shown is: games in the middle column become games in the left column after just a few years. i think the narrative is that Sonic fans are indecisive and don't have any actual opinions. they say a game "always sucked" then turn around and say it was "always great"

correct, but not everyone keeps their old consoles around to play them. a 2005 DVD still works in a modern DVD player but a GameCube disc won't run on the Switch.

the hate was there because of that. but it really started to build through the Switch's lifecycle, as more people than ever were looking at what nintendo was doing. and we all saw the hate come out for various pokemon games, the launch of the NSO expansion, mario kart 8's booster pass, etc.

their last explosively positive launch was the Wii. the Wii U had no response at all, the Switch had to slowly win people back. all the while, nintendo was taking down youtube videos of their games and wiping fan games off the face of the planet.

if you polled every single person on earth that cared at all about the switch 2, i would bet you that the majority of them either didnt know about the controversy online, or simply didnt care enough about it.

for instance, the pokemon sword/shield backlash was so explosively negative online, to the point of greatly affecting the mental health of the devs. but that game broke sales records. it showed me that not all 7 billion people on earth use twitter. not all gamers are chronically online.

social media sites/apps are social bubbles. the vast majority of people arent hyper engaged in online discourse on every single they like. this situation should reveal just how meaningless "online consensus" can be.
