Solidarity and admiration.

Watching colleagues who go above and beyond in their roles, commuting 4+ hours per day, getting upbraided for being 2-3 minutes late. Threatened with disciplinary. Awful.

This is what the russian offensive of 2024 looks like. The price of this offensive is hundreds of thousands of dead russian soldiers who have been deceived by russian war criminal President putin, the russian government and russian propagandists. You will not read about this in the russian media. 👇

For my Masters I researched the 1991 Gulf War. It remains in my view, one of the most significant and impactful conflicts of the 2nd half of the 20th century. From media to “smart” bombs and the future shape of the Middle East.

Teaching A-level History has seen me trying to shoehorn amazing practice I see in KS3&4 into KS5. We have good EQs, lots of historians, knowledge, narrative and reading opportunities etc. But I’ve never had an enthusiastic colleague in these endeavours. Not in 24yrs of teaching. Teamwork is vital.

Ofsted should be replaced by the Irish Dept of Education. Grading exists but are: 1) Sure that’s grand. 2) Well, you know yourself. 3) I won’t keep you. 4) Jaysus lads

Planning is always hard. But after being told I wouldn’t have 2 Yr12 groups under any circumstances & now recruiting enough for 3. I have a new timetable and multiple extra groups. The joys of FE.

History teachers. How do you do initial assessment for Yr12s? We have an extract from a historian and ask questions of the students.

I can’t remember who said this on the other place, but it has stuck with me- if you’re a teacher or HoD awaiting results tomorrow, remember that they are never as good or as bad as they first appear.

Also, remember the biggest driver of any result is the child and their context… it’s not all on us
August 14, 2024 at 4:34 PM
I hope the results go the student’s way tomorrow. Honestly though, I’ve been teaching long enough to feel confident that they’re not my results. Good or bad. I did a solid teaching job during the year, did exam CPD, subject CPD, taught 15 or more revision styles, advised, explained and workshopped.

Twitter really does (or did) work well for Indie Bookshops. It saved my business on many occasions. Looking at my webstore analytics about 85% of my sales came through Twitter. That has now dropped to about 70%. Insta generates sales a little, but Threads and BS… almost zero. I’m terrified

This platform has been harder to find History teachers. It feels easier to use than Threads though.
