I'm going to go ahead and take this opinion piece with more than a few grains of salt.

My guess is that they were hoping to just rehab the groin, and either there was a setback with the groin, or the hernia just showed up and they decided they might as well go in and fix the groin too while they're fixing the hernia.

Life is dark and serious enough as it is. I'm not interested in reading about all the creative ways that it could get darker and more serious.
