At least the illusion of it.

Vox wanted so badly to say that he himself had long since belonged to Al. If only there had been even a single spark of certainty in him that he was needed.

And their evenings, which used to feel like something the universe itself had adorned, would no longer feel like they existed on borrowed fingertips. They would finally belong entirely to Vox. To the two of them. Just as a part of Al would belong to him. +

Just as far from it as Vox himself was from such a self-sufficient and unbearably desired Al.

He would endure.

And he would be endlessly happy to remain by Al’s side on those partnership terms, if only they gave him at least some place next to him. +

To something that was so far from what Vox truly wanted. So different from the sparks that ran between them on especially fine evenings, making his foolish heart clench so tightly that holding back the urge to press himself to another body felt like an unbearable torment. +
