I left Twitter exactly three years ago today.

I miss what it was, but that’s true of a lot of things we’ve lost, like constitutional democracy, the Pac-12, Pixar movies being good, and the illusion that 50% of our fellow citizens aren’t complete dogshit […]

Lost most of the day to a networking problem caused by a DHCP server sending two incompatible sets of addresses. And there's no way to know if it's the eero sending both, or if I have some rogue device offering up useless addresses in the 192.168.82.x range. Whee.

Not sure if this is ironic or just incongruous.

Has anyone considered teaching Nate Silver a new skill? Y’know, get the guy an O’Reilly or Prags book on Python or something? Maybe swap out his face and voice for an anime girl avatar and start VTubing? Something more viable than whatever he thinks he’s doing currently.

Wife and I threw a couple hundred bucks at local food banks to help get them through the Republicans’ SNAP tantrum. Yay, employer match.

Last RT: I stand by my prediction that Switch 2 will catch up with the XBox Series install base (likely in the 30 millions) within its first year.

Seeing @Gte and @bigzaphod reminiscing about BeOS… I briefly had a BeOS preview installed on one of my Performa 6400 partitions back in the 90s but couldn’t really do anything with it because my only semi-competent programming skills were in Java and it didn’t have a JVM. After getting my C mojo […]

I’ve been having a couple days where literally nothing can go right. So I’m basically hiding and listening to old KFOG 10@10 shows. https://www.mixcloud.com/KFOGforever/

Since updating my home Mac to Tahoe 26.0, unformatted incoming email defaults to Helvetica Narrow, and it's driving me crazy. Anyone know where I can set the default font for incoming mail?

One nice thing about iPadOS 26 and Liquid Glass is that the folders on my home screen don’t black out background Mitsuki-chan’s eyes anymore.

Was just reminded that the single fastest optimization for iOS development is to just run your stuff on the damn device instead of the simulator. I mean, it’s like you’ve got a whole second CPU/GPU just sitting there in your pocket. Why not put it to use?

What percentage of people do you suppose use spreadsheets like Excel, Sheets, or Numbers and have no idea how to enter a formula or that they even exist?

I don’t expect to see much if anything from this Anthropic settlement, but as long as it hurts them, and sets a precedent for hurting other thieving AI companies, I’ll be happy. https://www.wired.com/story/anthropic-settlement-lawsuit-copyright/
Anthropic Agrees to Pay Authors at Least $1.5 Billion in AI Copyright Settlement
Anthropic will pay at least $3,000 for each copyrighted work that it pirated. The company downloaded unauthorized copies of books in early efforts to gather training data for its AI tools.

OK, two decades late… how do I get into Daft Punk? I have — and really enjoy — “Alive” and the “TRON: Legacy” soundtrack. Where do I go from here? Is starting at “Discovery” the obvious first step? https://music.apple.com/us/album/alive-2007/717067737
