What a beautiful occasion to rekindle the minimal / infinite sound this group of musicians made 11 and 13 years ago. Forever <> Past <> Present <> Future <> Forever.

A very special event that will also mark the FIRST performance by Rob Mazurek’s Alternate Moon Cycles (with Matt Lux and Mikel Patrick Avery) SINCE the album’s release in December 2014, which is kind of crazy to think about.

We’ll be remembering and celebrating all of this on December 2nd of this year (our label’s ACTUAL 11 year anniversary) at our new HQ inside Rebuild Foundation & Theaster Gates new project, The Land School.

Photographer Kari Pilates did a beautiful job of documenting the last show. When I invited David Allen and Dave Vettraino to come in and record the gig, I had no idea that we’d eventually run a record label together, and that those recordings would be the label’s first release.

Those DEC shows were the last gigs that I put on at Curio, where I both tended bar and hosted a free jazz series (named “Trio in Curio” in homage to a band that some of my old friends had in Indiana, and also because we only booked three-person ensembles) from mid-11 til those last days of 12.

The poster that Craig designed was an update/alteration of the original poster he designed for Rob Mazurek’s ‘Alternate Moon Cycles’ residency at Curio (underneath Gilt Bar in Downtown Chicago) in December of 2012.

It was a great night. Our buds Empty Bottle helped us put on the gig. Our other bud Dan Bitney (of Tortoise fame) DJ’d at the show — although I suppose he didn’t make it onto the flyer, which was designed by our go-to graphics man of many years Craig Hansen.

WAY BACK WEDNESDAY (c/o IARC co-founder Scottie McNiece):

Just about 11 years ago, we gathered in the basement of the Chopin Theater on the South side of the Polish Triangle in Wicker Park, Chicago, to celebrate our label’s first release, IARC0001, Alternate Moon Cycles by Rob Mazurek.
