An American working full time (40 hr week) for a year at $15/hour = $31,200 annually. $2600/month pre-tax. Not enough for rent, utilities, food, transportation, medicine, and healthcare.
It’s not a living wage, even if employers provide benefits.

i've been thinking about this book on a weekly basis. how desperately people want to "understand the world around them" and so embrace pseudoscience and conspiracy, because they seem to provide the answers <3

i think it's about habit; it's easier to follow the path already traveled thousands of times, than to find a new path, not to mention question the destination altogether.

i recently met a very unhappy, lonely older woman who recognized meanness in others, but wasn't able or willing to self-reflect.

i knew of a wild Turkey hen whose leg had got partially amputated somehow.

after a year or so she acquired a mate. they were always seen together after that

eventually the pair was fatally assaulted at night by some motorist. next morning, the local turkeys gathered in respect and remembrance. 🌅
