Bad at this by any objective measure.
Maybe something like Half Baked. Not a very good movie, and probably even more dated today, but I'm guessing that just about every millennial would be familiar with at least one scene from it.

Yeah, union composition has changed rather a lot since FDR, for one. Beyond mutual desire to increase union participation, it's hard to see unions repping police, teachers, and Teamsters etc together forming the basis of a coherent movement, apparently with near-universal membership mobilization.

Standoff with the feds that ends with him passing out with a lit smoke and burning down the place?

There isn't another 15 pages, which is the problem. It's barely long enough to need to sacrifice a staple, in a class taken by a collrge junior. It's been a minute since I've been in academia, but beyond all the other issues I'm bemused that a few hundred words are an essay at that level.

Beyond the atrocious writing, lack of citations or proper argument, I'm wondering where the other 15 pages are? Surely, that isn't considered essay-length for a third-year student. It's barely a twitlonger.

Yeah, the morality of Republican elected officials is inversely proportional to Trump's approval ratings. The further he sinks, and the more of a lame duck he becomes, the more of them will discover 'last straws' like this (even though they aren't among the 50 worst things he has said or done).

I'm hoping for a subscription deal. So cumbersome going back time and again for indulgences; I'd much rather pay a monthly fee to have my sins absolved without ever lifting a finger. "HelloFresh for your immortal soul" is a winning business model, IMO.

He's only smiling because there is an unattended tub of mayonnaise behind the camera that is practically begging for him to jam his hand into it.

Easiest way to find out: offer the first Beltway journo to spill the beans on the rest (with receipts!) a $10m book advance and amnesty. The rest are sentenced to damnatio memoriae. Would take an hour, max, to have the goods on each and every one of them.

Melding the experiences of 2008 - 2024, it appears that the most effective political strategy would be to extend recessions into a long period of low-inflation malaise while looting the Treasury to periodically send out stimmy checks (ideally with your face on the envelope). Yeah.

Lizza should be hung in a gibbet over the Potomac as a warning to any other journalist who would sit on anything this consequential in the hopes that they can convert it to a future book deal or boost in Substack subs.

...but we should wait until he finishes the series first.

Former coworker had ~100 Bitcoin circa 2012. He bought them as a medium of exchange between himself and a shady Chinese nootropic vendor and used them for their intended purpose.

He's pretty blasé about his lost fortune...even if he held them for a year, they're were always getting spent on drugs.

Until this moment, I had no idea how much I wanted an opportunity to call work and tell them I'll be late because my car is stuck in Big Bus Jail.

Look, Clause 18(b) of the TOS for the Torment Nexus states that using it for torment is expressly prohibited. You are not meant to press the button labeled Torment, even if it is the only button. If you did, that's on you bucko.

If someone is willing to give me $207b, I promise not to burn all of it. I'd even be willing to give back $200b of that after a while. OpenAI could never.

One of my go-to lazy meals is udon with ground chicken and a quantity of cabbage that would make a 19th century Ukrainian peasant weep with envy. Quality vegetable, top 50 easily.

What you're doing (attempting to survive while working 50 hours a week in a societally-necessary field) is pathetic and deserving of scorn, what I am doing (inventing exciting new ways to gamble, hosting a pod with my bros) is superhero stuff and deserves govt backing and/or statues in my honour.

Great advice. Now, how best to tell my girlfriend that I had to shave my chest to prevent the beams from the posture lasers in my nipples from getting scattered en route to their targets.

Coworker of mine is an otherwise mentally acute 77 year old (no typo) who has fallen down a bad rabbit hole of AI slop and Youtube disinfo. Been trying and failing to get him to nuke his viewing history to reset his algo, because otherwise it's all Youtube will feed him.

This stuff sucks so bad.

A sadly large number of otherwise-sane people believe that doing politics is tawdry and impure; only movements are capable of real change. They refuse to accept that movements are an outgrowth of politics; thus, when someone does politics well, it's a betrayal of the movement that should've been.

There is no escape from this hell, and the best we can ask for is to periodically glance at one another and mutter "you seeing this shit?"

She doesn't want to be in a position to make any more tough votes either for or against Trump, is my guess. She's going to be running as a hard-right conservative and needs those votes in a primary, but also wants breathing room if/when Trump completely crashes and burns (and he will).

When I was in my early 20s, I learned from a mutual friend that one of my then-oldest friends was, if not an outright rapist (that I don't know), someone who was quite persistent in pursuit of sex.

My friends went one way; I went the other. Haven't spoken to any of them in 15 years.
