“Mitte advocatos, arma et pecuniary.” ~ W. Zevon

Cartoon pig in a past life. Lapsed piper, recovering journo, card-carrying non-conformist. Trying to be a better dad. Marilyn name drops me in "Some Like It Hot."

I spin/post vinyl, DH right & vote blue. 💙
I was wrong ... thought JD was in both the first two "Oh, God" movies. Just the first. Let the lashing begin.

It’s a guilty pleasure, but I do enjoy the “Kingsman” movie franchise. In “The Golden Circle,” actor Mark Strong belts out an amazing version of “Country Roads” in a Scot’s brogue before martyring himself by stepping off a landmine.

I’ll never hear it again as anything but a protest song. ✊🏼

Shel approves, and clued me in: no real deep cuts here, just tunes you’ve been fed since high school.

This library copy belong to somebody who played it and loved it a lot.

This has some cool, monumental live performances, not the least of which are the five tracks that capture Queen at Live Aid.

The Rainbow and Hammersmith live tracks rock hard, but “Love of My Life” from Rock in Rio … fans carrying the weight, otherworldly.

All my late ‘80s band geeks in high school lost their shit over “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and that was before Wayne and Garth started head-banging in the Mirthmobile.

That said, I’m hearing some deeper than average ‘80s lyrics popping through here. This is the bridge from The Clash to BAD II that I heard in college - early ‘90s.

It has great beats, but it’s pretty mellow.

I played “Let’s Give a Party” at a party, and it was epic.

Also, Jethro Burns … damn. To hear Steve Goodman‘s singles are one thing. But if you don’t get into an album like this to hear the musicality, you missed the point.

They were rediscovered in the documentary “You Weren’t There,” and after famously having never recorded an album, they dropped one in 2010. Then, they followed up with this bizarre beast. Yes, it’s stupid, but it also makes me smile. The white fluff on the cover is an homage to “Sticky Fingers.” 👌
