the problem with community moderation is that only deranged people moderate web forums. this is why bland corpo moderation where nobody cares is the ideal form of moderation.

if they just decided to add this independently i wouldn’t really care. it’s the fact that it’s after the user base of children had a fit about it that’s worrying.

twitter had the ideal moderation system. prevented big accounts from farming ooga booga racism engagement bait without being banned but was trivially easy to avoid if you were smart about it at all. worst case you make a {name}_punished account. life moves on.

i find it annoying but it’s the kind of annoying i can guilt free be annoyed at bc i know they have no actual power and are just being goofy and unserious people online
