Words count for nothing in a world where action is the currency.

Only in our hearts. But that’s because there it’s always Metroid Prime Day.

Kids now really cannot fathom how much this blew our minds. I assumed it was a prank when I saw it for the first time.

It’s one of the best, too. I imagine it must be hard for executives to support or wrap their head around while it’s in development or something similar. Or maybe just so expensive to make that it’s hopeless to make a profit.

I think that video games may go through something similar to what happened to cars. In the 40’s & 50’s cars were a popular hobby for teens and 20s, not just tools of transit. Now cars as a hobby is relatively niche but they are ever more a part of our daily life. It’s not an exact 1-1 but still.

It is the official position of The Indie Light Podcast to not slap children. However: the photographer in this instance is adamant to test our resolve.

I think I over stated. I don’t mean to say that it is the way forward for devs, just the industry as a whole. You’re both right about that. People need to afford to live and the pay in indies is usually not enough. I just mean that the medium for hobbyists is shifting towards indies in a big way.

It does seem like that’s the only way forward. I’m glad there’s people out there willing to offer guidance now that the AAA bubble looks to be bursting.

This looks incredible! How have I not heard of this before?
July 4, 2025 at 3:41 PM
This looks super cool.

You’re not wrong but I think you’re overstating. There is an untellable variety of Indies now and they vary in scope and art direction. El Paso Elsewhere has as much content as any major release and it’s low poly 3D art is very artistically robust even still.

But we likely define Indie differently.

The reality seems to be that someone high up at Xbox, someone who likely wasn’t laid off yesterday, isn’t doing their job to get projects finished. Of course you aren’t going to like your sales numbers when you aren’t bringing anything to market. Add to that incompetence the push for A.I….
July 3, 2025 at 4:46 PM
But that exact scenario playing out over and over again in the past 15 years at Xbox says to me that something is broken on a management level and I can’t but wonder if the wrong people got laid off yesterday. Scalebound was cancelled in 2017, the year before The Initiative was started. 🤔 (2/2)

Play Indies Games. The AAA space is not where it needs to be to sustain a creative industry of this size.

This is such a cool aesthetic. Great work so far.

In the popular consciousness “Indie” seems more about a vibe than a hard definition, unfortunately. For example: Technically Cyberpunk 2077 was an indie if our definition is either developer self-funded or self-published, but if we mean small team or low budget or even just low res. then it wasn’t.

This is why I have a smartphone. Lol Very cool.

This looks so cool. Very exciting.
