As a Washingtonian buildings over 12 stories are scary and unnatural.

Core capacity. Almost all 15 branches converge in the CBD on either 4 single track loops thru the CBD or 2 thru running tracks, limiting capacity. This adds two new tracks that 3 branches (4 eventually) will use, and effectively deinterlines them. Other lines will use the old capacity fired up.

It's crazy how much growth bikeshare and mocromobility is seeing everywhere. From the US to Canada to Europe, they're all seeing explosive growth. One of the most underrated positive trends in urbanism imo.

Man the burgers at DC9 are some of the best I've ever had, and they rotate in new burgers fairly frequently. Honestly a huge factor in why I go to the Survivor watch parties there.

The recent actions in New York fighting even one person operations, let alone automation, feels so stark compared to DC where WMATA has announced plans to completely automate and has largely gotten strong backing from the region's leaders.

The 2055 System Plan (which is what the vote was based on) uses graphics of DMUs and says frequency will be every 30 minutes peak and hourly all other times, with bidirectional service.

Depends on if the next one happens. We had two during Trump I and then none during Biden.

Does that matter with regards to not wanting people to be in more danger than they have to be?
November 12, 2025 at 6:34 PM
I want driving to be less *convenient* than public transit, not more *unsafe* and taxis in some form will always exist. Why not have them be safer?
November 12, 2025 at 6:31 PM
I also find public transit cool. But that doesn't mean I can't find other stuff cool as well.
November 12, 2025 at 6:29 PM
I have no idea why you thought I wanted transit replaced by these rather than taxis or ride-share which they compete with much more directly.
November 12, 2025 at 6:27 PM
Because they're safer than regular cars and taxis. I almost always use public transport or bikeshare personally, but occasionally I do need to use taxis. And other people use them as well. It would be safer for me as a pedestrian if they were more common. Plus I do just think it's cool.

Sitting here in DC unable to use any of the Waymos because DDOT still hasn't issued recommendations for self driving cars despite the law requiring the report by late 2022.

And it still seems to be spreading to new places somehow! Though I'll admit to loving the term, it's very cute.

Linguistic determinism is real, but just for when English speakers try and build infrastructure.

Man, images like this make me sad that widespread electrification didn't catch on in the US.
