I could have people hold it like a matchlock but that would either mean the barrel would be crazy long or the recoil would break your wrist the second you fire it. If it doesnt look like a 1911 its basically incompatible with anything that makes modern guns so powerful and intimidating

for this one very specific weapon I want something that uses a lot of modern gun ideas (a slide, a detachable magazine, semi-automatic, and held in a way to minimize recoil) but the problem is basically all of that is from the last 100 years and none of it is compatible before then
