Last year I put an insect hotel on my office window sill, & one solitary bee used one solitary cell. I felt a bit silly, but when I looked at it just now, the bee had hatched and there are now nine potential bees for next year! It won't solve all the bees' problems, but it gave me a lift.

Supplies for a long weekend of near-finalising the thesis MS, before going cold turkey (aka sugar free) for Lent. Feeling weirdly calm. There's still lots of rough corners to smoothe, but it feels doable now. Ten days to submission.

I made gluten-free quinoa-and-coconut cupcakes (with edible glitter) and took them to work. They were almost all gone before I could take a pic. This is the last one, & here's the recipe:

(I added cocoa powder & choc chunks, because chocolate.)

It was so cold this morning that the gears on my bike froze stuck, but the sunset tonight was spectacular.

If I had to have a throne, I'd want one like this: in the air, amid plants, on the same level as everybody else.
(It's in the centre of the Grass Maze at Cambridge Botanic Gardens, which I wish I could tag because it's such a lovely place.)

Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just covers.

Not sure which view I prefer. Slightly enchanted park somewhere in Cambridge (UK).

Tiny helpful reference library in the greenhouses in the Botanic Gardens in Cambridge (UK). Plants and books, what a wonderful combination.
