I think they said that tower is visual only and had no radar. People are pretty terrible at judging speed from a distance and I assume didn't realize how fast one was going. Just happy tragedy was avoided.

Yeah it's a carpet bomber, It can carry up to 20 GBU-31 (2,000lb) or 24 GBU-38 (500lb) JDAMs internally. Might have seen a few while I was active duty.

It's because people's attention spans are short. Or it's never personally hurt them so they have no frame of reference why said infrastructure is important.
