Like, ranking the effectiveness of stats and weapons in ER is a curiosity at best which some people take way too seriously and you see this kinda thing everywhere

essentially, a lot of people are armchair top 500 national sponsored champions and allow that to distract them from actually having fun.

my annoying opinion is that this is a symptom of games being generally too online-competition-oriented, and not specific to souls games.

people who will never see a bracket in their lives love to make a fuss over tier lists made for the top .01% of players in very specific competitive contexts

I know it's "too dark" in that it offends your fragile sensibilities and simplistic view of the world, but it also, is true.

I mean it's got this guy, so it is de facto one of the greatest games ever made.

if NPC dialogue in a game is unimportant or boring, one of two things is happening:

1. someone did a bad job writing it
2. you didn't appreciate it, for whatever reason

don't put sawdust in your bread on purpose for fuck's sake

I'm 100% with you there. To argue against 'war is wrong' by saying 'what about x war', one has to be willfully ignorant of all the context, minute decisions, macro decisions, and cultural tides which leads to war.

all to say it's kind of confusing and misleading to suggest a game director would be able to "recut" a game the same way a film director might.
November 26, 2025 at 9:52 PM
The job of a "director" in terms of game development is also in most cases, like, a completely different job than a film director. To the degree that there are frequently multiple "directors" on one project or several directors of different things like art, gameplay, writing, tech, etc.

Yeah Sega's done this before and it always baffled me. Sonic Adventure DX is in no real way a "director's cut" of Sonic Adventure, despite loudly emblazoning it on the box.

A ton of these genAI things require buying a license or a paid membership anyway. This whole angle is absurd on its face.

I think this is a good take, and imo it also doesn't even have to be super extreme. Small twists like Xion reducing your max HP or Axel turning the floor into fire etc. can really elevate an encounter.

I really enjoyed PN2 but 'toothless' is a good way of putting it. Especially felt that of the way the conflict 'resolved' in the final sequence.

emotional repression is so real. A big change for me was just feeling a lot more genuine in general. Not feeling embarrassed about every small glimmer of vulnerability.

Bloodborne localizers going for Hypogean Gaol over 'underground jail'

Love it when they do stuff like that.

I don't mind fantasy jargon per se, but I do find it kind of weird how often fantasy jargo is invented where an existing word would suffice!

half my friends are software developers and they all can't stand this shit. every week I hear a new rant about how infuriated they are with executive know-nothings trying to push it and how much harder it makes their jobs.

I works in games everyone I know is an artist, author, or software developer and they all universally hate this shit
