Long zoom + "worse" camera = better image than short zoom & "better" camera.

Both taken on the same trip, likely not the the same puffin, but the distance to the puffin is similar in both.

100% crop.

Top: APS-C (24 megapix) + 400mm lens
Bottom: Full frame (36 megapix) + 105mm lens
Comparison of camera & lens combinations on picture quality. In this case, longer zoom + "worse" camera results in a much better image than a shorter zoom & "technically better" camera. Caveats: Even though these were both taken on the same trip, they are probably not pictures of the the same puffin. However, the distance to the puffin is likely similar in both. Moral of the story: Bring a long lens! 100% crop in both images. Top image: APS-C camera (24 megapixels) + 400mm zoom lens Bottom: Full frame camera (36 megapixel) + 105mm zoom lens
