SOF used to be for, well, operations that are special; they trained for specific niche jobs that the regular soldiery *couldn't* do, like raising guerilla forces, SCUBA diving, or intelligence support. Turning them into "regular light infantry, but badasser" defeats the purpose of having them.

Car-centrism. US urban design is predicated on the assumption that absolutely everyone has a car and drives everywhere, and as a result everything is ridiculously spread out. You can blame the post-WWII auto industry not wanting to downsize from wartime production and heavily pushing car ownership.

That's actually a very effective tactic for keeping wolves out of your hair; if they're all stuck in a pit somewhere, no new ones will spawn in the area. It's one of the methods often recommended to new players for dealing with wolves in the early game: just dig a big hole and lead them into it.
