Why is electrification a good policy? It helps with climate change. It's good economics - we can stop sending billions of dollars overseas each year for a product we're literally setting on fire. It reduces people's power bills. More power and lower prices are good for industry. It's wins all round.

There are policies that Labour could adopt that are aspirational, practical and not especially left wing. To give one example: "Electrify everything!". Bring back the clean-car discount, and introduce a subsidy for rooftop solar and batteries.

Kind of wish the reporter had flat out asked Dumars "Why didn't you top 4 protect the pick?". What's better than getting Derik Queen? Getting Derik Queen *and* Dybontsa/Boozer/Paterson...

Maraetai maybe? The Pine Harbour ferry would add some interest to the journey. Could work through a theme like "beaches of Auckland" or "see how many volcanic cones can you visit".

I had a two minute phone call with my GP's practice to get a prescription refilled. $35!

Any theories on why?

We know all of the following things will be true:
1. Councils will front-load as much spending as possible before the rates cap takes effect.
2. Councils will raise rates by the maximum each year.
3. Everything that can be moved to an uncapped charge (water!) will be.

I'm trying to work out who's actually available and I think almost half the healthy roster are centers...

"Look! The economy is recovering from the recession we created! Congratulate us!"

Maybe they were installed and removed by the building owner rather than council? Still, seems short-sighted. If you were in Christchurch, there'd be 5 more sets of bike stands in a 100 metre radius.

Will James Borrego win a lot more games than Willie Green would have? Probably not. Will they be more entertaining to watch? Signs are promising.
November 25, 2025 at 5:46 PM
Since our season goals are apparently down to "Losing, but at least in an entertaining way", why the hell not?

The first article on asset sales I've read that should come with a NSFW warning.

After further research: Iceland introduced road user charges for electric vehicles in 2024. Sales have apparently rebounded in 2025 (and they're bringing in RUCs for all vehicles soon).
November 19, 2025 at 3:21 AM
I'm curious about Iceland. I presume there was some change in incentives but even fairly recently EVs had a 60% share of the new vehicle market in Iceland.

Bishop isn't as tunnel visioned as Simeon Brown on *only* building motorways, but he still wants to build them. He just wants to build everything else as well.
November 19, 2025 at 2:19 AM
Lots of people are praising Bishop for being realistic about the challenges of paying for the roads, and the other things that have to be built as well. But I didn't hear him say that any of the RoNS shouldn't be built, or their design should be scaled back to something more affordable.

Kind of curious as to whether there is any level of non-performance that would convince Dumars to fire Weaver. Because if any threshold exists, this Pelicans team seems capable of hitting it.
November 18, 2025 at 7:20 PM
Narrator: "They did not".
November 18, 2025 at 2:48 AM
They're trying to overtake that Denver game for worst Pelicans loss in recent memory aren't they?
November 18, 2025 at 1:41 AM
Another Simeon side-effect that's going to amuse me: I think the speed limit rules obligate Christchurch to put a variable speed zone on Brougham St right at the exit to the southern motorway, and where they're spending $80m on a pedestrian overbridge.
November 17, 2025 at 8:24 PM
Notably Simeon has been much less successful in the health portfolio where he can't try to solve every problem with a four lane expressway.

He definitely deserves playing time. How Queen co-exists with Zion when he returns is going to be a fascinating question. Will they discover some unexpected chemistry like Adams and Sengun did last season?

A trade that looked questionable at the time, and even worse with some data. Yay Weamas!
