Oh man, this looks super cool.

It happens more often than it should for sure. The "Rockstar" mentality is poison, especially for something as time and money intensive a game dev. You *really* can't assume that just because you were a part of a hugely successful team that anything you do after that will even do a fraction as well

That's like a step away from Cyberpunk's "real water" ads 😬

Oh, and also get ready for the worst of the worst of the internet to flood your inbox over every imagined slight regardless of what you do.

MP in general just doesn't seem worth it except for the slim slim chance you actually hit it and get a ton of players and buzz.

But even then, get ready to work on nothing else for the foreseeable future except maybe a sequel.

Got a PSVR2 and a pc adapter last year and I was amazed by how much was available. Not even including mods to add it to existing games. Outer Wilds is amazing in VR. The System Shock remake is great as well.

Still need to try the Alien Isolation and The Outer Worlds mods as well

Bonus imsim points if random animals (rats, mice) can eat some of your cheese pile while you're away. Even more if the cheese eventually gets moldy.

Back in the late 90s I went through a phase where I put grip tape from a skate shop on my mice. Both buttons and body. I was heavily into Unreal Tournament and my room didn't cool very well in the summer, so it actually helped with the sweaty hands!

I know it isn't the first, but in my mind it's always the game that comes to mind whenever the "yellow paint" discourse starts up.

The drawn out death sequences certainly were a choice. Especially the "pole through head, camera focuses on face all throughout" one 😳

...and bricked my save :( My own fault really. Got tired of farming minions and thought I'd use cheat engine. It *worked*, kind of. My count went up, but now it crashes anytime I try to do most things minion related. Plus wrong colored minions come out the pools. Torn on whether to start over or not

That tracks. I remember one of the early AC video games talking about the "Game loop" either in the manual or maybe in-game (it's been a while, can't remember which) and thinking that was a weird thing to talk about in a mass market AAA game.

Hopefully gonna finish up Overlord on PC. Been enjoying it so far even if it is a little on the easy side. Really like the whole Fable meets Pikmin meets Dungeon Keeper vibe it's got going.

It's why I never got down with Fusion or even Zero Mission tbh. Not saying they're bad games but they're lacking (especially Fusion) what I came to those games for.

Exactly. I can only speak for myself but the thing that always drew me to Metroid was that sense of isolation on an alien world coupled with the sense of discovery and a great atmospheric soundtrack. The opposite of a game that has a character nattering at you constantly telling you how to beat it.

One of my fondest gaming memories is having a couple days off work back in 1998. Sitting in my room with all the lights off, a mini fridge full of drinks, AC cranked, and playing through Thief: The Dark Project for the first time front to back with only breaks to eat, use the bathroom, and sleep.

Only did this once, during my Warframe days when grinding through repetitive levels. It was honestly my cue that maybe I should play something else.

Otherwise I treat games as an experience akin to going to see a movie in the theater. Lights off, no distractions, high volume on the surround setup.

Even worse was the System Shock remake. That game has almost zero handholding. It's an amazing game (as was the original), but man did modern players struggle with it.

It was sad/extremely frustrating to watch streamers just struggle with MGS 3 Delta last month. That game will tell you everything you need to know but you have to intuit it out of codec conversations. Half paying attention to chat while skipping through dialog won't cut it.

Pisses me off. It's like every search is deathly afraid of giving you anything less than pages upon pages of results, so it includes anything tangentially related or (goddamnit) even *similarly spelled*. Completely ignoring any qualifiers while it's at it.

I've also seen more than one game in the recent past *not* have the text jump to the next line but instead just trail outside the text box 🤣

I've only seen two in the wild so far. Both belonged to a business and were fully wrapped. Basically a motorized advertisement. And the windows were fully tinted in each case.

A real "be sure to drink your ovaltine" moment.

Had a similar situation as a kid with Ghosts and Goblins. Except in that case it was "beat it twice for the true ending". Which i did, and the result was not much different than this IIRC.

My controller even worked! (Dualsense Edge). Though I think that might be more Steam Input's doing than anything else.
