I've got a pet project that's sat on a shelf for 30 years. I did some research into it for a week last month before shuffling it aside again. Thankfully, I kept my own local history library when I moved. Lots of out-of-print and photocopied newspaper clippings. Still overwhelming, though.

Been a while since I engaged in much offline research! We're spoiled by convenience these days.

For marketing, for sure. Possibly it's to confirm you're over 18, either so they don't collect data on a potential minor, or maybe some of their products have age restrictions. Or, as @faithofthefeathers.bsky.social said, maybe it's for them to send you a birthday coupon.

Today was going to be my day to shop for new winter tires.
