Nice paper! Reminds me (in spirit) of this from Steven Greenberg a few years ago. A paper I recommend to everyone!

I really enjoyed The Crying of Lot 49 and Inherent Vice (I think I liked Vineland as well but need to re-read it). I have managed Gravity's Rainbow... but it was a "journey". I do like the "density" of his writing though. Haven't read the new one so if you have opinion once you're done please share!

The machine overlords will not win by Terminator tactics but by making just enough people stupid... which is really a pretty stupid way to go. And would make a terrible movie!

"MT crawling around on the floor with scissors & sellotape, cutting bits out & sticking them back in" -Wow! Who would have thought Margaret Thatcher and William Burroughs had a writing style in common!

"Education is a human activity. A deeply human activity." - yes, key point. The same argument can be made for many of the jobs, occupations, roles etc AI is proposed for. You lose the human connection & you get a deeply unsatisfactory experience & enshittification.

All this should feel familiar to those of us who were adults when the internet was new. We'd all have the "knowledge of the human race in our pockets and be wise & just and true"... yeah not where we ended up. And the AI "revolution" will be the same; either underwhelming or the same pile of shite.
