That’s actually the plot of Hotel California by the Eagles. Where have you been, Clive?
…in which case, fine, best of luck to them, but Polanksi’s approach seems to be positioning the Greens to achieve both mass movement *and* electoral success, so the “win” again goes to cringe.

Unless, as appears quite likely from how they’ve behaved so far, Your Party’s aim is simply to unify and activate the (admittedly quite large) group that already think we need an unambiguously socialist party/movement, and not to appeal more widely to make immediate significant electoral gains…
November 28, 2025 at 2:54 PM
Polanski is convincing people socialism holds the answers to their problems by explaining the answers (and they happen to be broadly socialist); Sultana is telling them Your Party is socialist. Again: one is succeeding in advancing their cause, the other is not really…
November 28, 2025 at 2:54 PM
Polanski might be cringe and Sultana might be ideologically “right”, but one is succeeding and one is not, and one of the most visible differences is accessibility versus in-group speak
November 28, 2025 at 2:48 PM
Yeah, fair. I guess my problem is better expressed as: Polanski is earnestly getting out there and getting a lot of people excited who, yes, are open to anyone who isn’t “them”, but could easily go another way, whereas Sultana especially is getting bogged down in semantics and not *doing* much
November 28, 2025 at 2:48 PM
To be honest, I think the fact that people are jumping to that conclusion is the product of a) a lot of projection of their own politics/fears, and b) a dose of underestimating Gilligan as a creator of nuanced stories/characters, rather than the evidence of the show itself so far!

Would be interested to see a trend line. Entirely possible we spent several games earlier creating and missing large numbers of “big chances”, *and* that now we are racking up big xG totals through high volume of low-value shots (while potentially *also* still missing the big chances we *do* create)
November 28, 2025 at 2:21 PM
From about 27:20 into the episode with CHRISTY as the headline.
November 28, 2025 at 2:17 PM
This is why Your Party will die even quicker if Sultana remains leading. Yes, the factional bullshit and chaos, but the rigid insistence on terminology and labels that gee up the nerds but massively turn off the masses. Most people with semi-Left views don’t want to call themselves “socialist”!
November 28, 2025 at 2:15 PM
When the choice for the forces of good is well-intentioned cringe that gets engaged people excited and normies engaged, or some fucking textbook-dry academic theorising that might be politically optimal by electorally kryptonite, I will clap and cheer my way through the cringe, thankyouverymuch
November 28, 2025 at 2:11 PM
Look, I’m being mildly facetious, but the idea that these things are unquestionably a transformative technology and not something that is going to go wrong in all sorts of dumb ways is, I think, quite the stretch. And I’ve worked in tech for nearly 15 years, I want it to improve our lives!

So we’ve got remote drivers taking over an awful lot, given the frequency with which the robots are likely to encounter issues, whether uncooperative pedestrians, cruddy pavement conditions, or whatever else. Sounds like we could just pay riders tbh?
November 28, 2025 at 2:06 PM
Okay, and what if it’s the person with the pram, or in a wheelchair, or on crutches, or walking with a stick, or otherwise mobility-impaired who is being blocked rather than the blocker?
November 28, 2025 at 1:59 PM
They will become dangerous, unsightly road litter like Lime bikes.
November 28, 2025 at 1:55 PM
Look, I am all in favour of Fully-Automated Luxury Communism, but this stuff is not good.

Pavements are for pedestrians, and are narrow and shitty enough without introducing shin-high RC cars that obstruct the way, especially for those with reduced mobility.

Imagine you probably don’t listen to Kermode and Mayo’s film podcast, but just listening to the latest episode and a listener has written in with a similar take, drawing the East/West parallel not just on economic model but on religion — God and man as distinct versus “we are all one”

Enjoyed this mate. The core idea obviously, but particularly the characterisation of PLURIBUS not as a thematic departure from BB and BCS but as their natural evolution.

Will be very interesting to see how this holds up over the longer-term development of the show!

Wary of raising it, because they are obviously different circumstances, but are there potentially some parallels with Dalglish’s first departure?

Slot has almost certainly shouldered a massive burden keeping everyone together; it would be perfectly understandable if he’s fried and needs time away.

It would be entirely fair enough to say “You know what, nobody’s head’s right here, mine included, and everyone might benefit from someone coming in from outside at this point.”
