Love IPR stuff (Savage Republic had Claremont connections, so I saw them a lot in college), but I've never seen this. Gorgeous.

I'll see how one of her podcast appearances comes off. I have my generation/subculture's resistance to the upbeat style you're talking about, but I'm not resolutely opposed to this kind of content - aspects of Getting Things Done that aren't domain-specific have been useful, for instance.

Does she discuss the psychological effect if you fail, esp. repeatedly?

I played about 20 seconds of this and put it directly in my bandcamp cart.

I love how lightly/deftly Denby handles the rhyme scheme here. "8th"/"death" is such a perfect couplet for a New York elegy.

I wish I could go into a little bubble of time with just this and the equally large book of Amazon reviews and ignore everything else for a couple weeks - I feel like I would come out a better writer and person.

I'll let him know - he'll be pleased.

Nice work on this. Strangely, I happened to find an import LP of Beginning of the Enz when I was a new wave teen into True Colors and Waiata, so I imprinted on "Lovey Dovey" and "Malmsbury Villa" alongside the U.S. hits.

I still think they're skilled and hooky, but at 13 it was the greatest record in the world.

Strange coincidence - I don't think I've ever seen that kind of mini-toothbrush before, but there was one in my hotel room in London last week.

"An arrangement is when someone stops playing" is the epigraph to a book of poems I published in 2012. Also advice I think of every time I rehearse new songs.

I wish I could be clever in response, but I'm just touched by your interest and support.

Shocking to you maybe. I had fun, though - it was good to meet you.

I don't think you garbled anything - I was just explaining why I didn't use the better-known "celestial" in the title. IIrc, "heavenly" made me think of songs like "...Honky-Tonk Angels," which led to the overall C&W barroom-song vibe. I had other thoughts on your reading; I'll try to recall them.

Without agreeing w/ the judgment, it's true that the 45 was a minute longer than the album version, w/ a piano solo you could, perhaps, tie to something like Dylan's "I Want You." www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrwN...

Man, I have a copy of Clinkers, but the cover got damaged; how, I don't quite recall, but it annoyed me at the time.

Is this bit also from that essay? If so, it's been way too long.
