I grew up with Ladybird books and find such pleasure and comfort in the seasonal illustrations.

'Darkness took on a special feel because it was All Hallows' Eve. Everything seemed cut from soft black velvet or gold or orange velvet. Smoke panted up out of a thousand chimneys like the plumes of funeral parades. From kitchen windows drifted two pumpkin smells:gourds being cut, pies being baked.'

Well, it's Creative Writing I teach, rather than English - but yep, guilty as charged...

Strewing wonderful examples and seeing students gobble them up is one of the best parts of a truly *great* job :)

Sirenhead, made by the talented @slimyswampghost.bsky.social is one of my favorite projects, I although I would do things differently now, I still hold this particular model very dear to my heart.

High winds meant my windows were in danger of being pelted by my fruit trees, so I had a mini-harvest :) Sat in my kitchen waiting to be preserved - baskets if apples and greengages :) I don't usually start doing my 'kitchen witch' act for another month at least...

Work has been enjoyable, but intense this week. This weekend I'll be writing up a storm (quite literally, for my folk horror) and getting creative, making more tiny books. As so often with me, everything leads to the sea. What creative things are you doing this weekend?
