Was my favorite as a kid (and still today tbh). I think I latched onto the montage where SpongeBob was taking care of Squidward with the upbeat music lol. Though I always love the shot where Squidward’s entire body save his eyes and nose are part of the background

Faxanadu

An interesting little NES adventure game. The graphics have aged surprisingly well, even if the controls and design haven't exactly aged the same way. Plus, there's a surprising amount of dialogue and worldbuilding here. I'd say it's a B-tier Zelda II, which is far from bad, at least.

lol it doesn’t even fit in one post

Yes officer I did 100% every stage in this game

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island

I wouldn’t say I prefer this to Mario World proper but it definitely reaches some big heights mechanically and visually. It does reach DK64 levels of “too many collectibles” but only if you’re 100%ing it like I did (at least you do get something)

The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past

Loved seeing where all the Zelda traditions really start to crystallize, and it’s damn impressive seeing the 2D system so refined on what essentially is their second attempt. It’s easy to see why this is what they built future entries on.

Crows actually! Specifically these types, called pied crows

Donkey Kong Country

Finally decided to get through this one, never could quite get to the end before. Ages surprisingly well with the level design and control, even if I have no idea how you’re supposed to 101% this blind (looking at you, bonus room inside another bonus room)

Go for it

Also have this clip of me getting the most disrespectful kill on the third Master fight

Paper Mario

Even as I haven’t played TTYD yet, this is rather quaint feeling in both story and gameplay, but you can see so much charm oozing through the dialogue, music, and mechanics that I can’t help but appreciate it. Definitely can be someone’s comfort game

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water

I'd say this is relatively on par with the first in terms of my enjoyment, it's a little aimless at points but the timing and humor were funnier than I expected, plus this has some gorgeous backgrounds and storyboarding. Not for everyone but I enjoyed it

Finished Ori and the Blind Forest. A very gorgeous and engaging Metroidvania, but it felt a bit too short for its own good? It feels like the game ends before a truly phenomenal finale. Maybe on future playthroughs I can truly get more out of this game, but it was still very good as is.

Finished Golgo 13 on the NES. Uniquely cinematic and adult-oriented among the catalog, like like how many other games on the system have explicit blood, swastikas, and implied sex scenes? The game itself was really stiff and annoying to go through, even with the variety of styles on display.

Finished Mario & Luigi: Brothership. Very good base overall, though I do agree that it feels pretty stretched out, especially near the end. Also feels like it was made for younger kids at some points in a way that I don’t really get from other titles. Still liked it though
