An ethereal view of a young star 🧚🦋✨

The NASA/ESA/CSA James #Webb Space Telescope captured IRAS 04302+2247, a dusty disc where planets may be forming.

In stellar nurseries, baby stars grow in cold gas clouds, forming discs like this one.

🔭 This sets the scene for the formation of planets, and observations of distant protoplanetary discs can help researchers understand what took place roughly 4.5 billion years ago in our own Solar System, when the Sun, Earth, and the other planets formed.

The ethereal Butterfly Star! 🦋⭐

The NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope captured this young star still gathering mass from its environment.

The gas surrounding it collects in dusty protoplanetary discs, where new planets can form.

Reminder that ESA's Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (Juice) flies past Venus this weekend. The spacecraft was designed to feel at home in the cold, dark environment of the Jupiter system, and it is too hot at Venus to turn the cameras on. Pics or it didn’t happen? You’ll have to trust us on this one.
