Are you doing the main quest with Eogar??? because otherwise you could just...not join a side with him? I usually avoid the civil war entirely if im not making a dragonborn character or specifically want to do the questline.

Honestly I kind of wish that Whiterun always joined the player's side, just to avoid having to attack it...and Jarl Balgruuf is the best

as much as I love Oblivion and prefer it in many ways, skyrim's perk system is just so much better than Oblivion's "every 25 levels in a skill you get a thing".

it, to me, is the "right" answer to the civil war. but its not a perfect answer, and in the long term might not even be a good answer...and also then you dont need to attack whiterun causing it to be in its post-attack appearance for the rest of that character's run

i did the stormcloak side of the quest once for completion sake, but I just cant bring myself to side with them with most chars. Not just because I like shouting Ulfric to death with Unrelenting Force (heh), but because a united empire is better suited to fending off the thalmor. (and less racist)

bethesda definitely learned from New Vegas and didnt have an obviously evil faction. Both the Empire and Stormcloaks are equally fucked up and equally with merit...though I do fully believe the empire are the better choice and Bethesda failed to make them truly equal

iirc the dwemer (and maybe aeylids) might be the only "truly evil" civilization in TES. Like the falmer got pushed underground by the invading nords, so they sought out the dwemer for help. Only to be basically enslaved and experimented on; turning them into the monsters we know them as today

like the thalmor hating Talos makes sense when you remember that the oldest aldmeri were ALIVE when Tiber Septim conquered their land and killed their people; then got to ascend and become divinity. granted the rest of the shit the thalmor are doing is NOT GOOD, but like...they can hate the empire 🙂
