I realize reporters have to write breaking news and too much context is often discouraged bc it’s a speed game. And context in this administration gets overwhelming fast, since there’s three outrageous stories every day.

But it feels irresponsible to have already moved on from that firing.

Every article I read HAS mentioned that the White House has said it wont release an October jobs report, despite the legal obligation to do so.

The White House is blaming the shut down, but imo the increased opacity around jobs data makes McEntarfer’s firing even more relevant.

That context is pretty important when the report is “surprisingly good” at a time employment seekers, consumers & businesses are reporting dire conditions. Obvi anecdotal evidence isn’t statistical representation, but combined with the Aug firing of Erika McEntarfer, it’s hard to trust this report.

For context: I borrowed the bamboo metaphor from Olivia Nuzzi’s ex, who leans into it pretty heavily in his newly dropped tell-all Substack series.

Education is freedom.

This should be a lightbulb moment on why college has become unaffordable in the US. And why Trump tasked a pro wrestling exec with dismantling the dept of Education. And why universities have been attacked and teachers accused of indoctrinating students with leftist ideology.

With these emails, the public is interacting directly with source information. Transparency and access to information is so important to a free society. But we are seeing how poorly prepared we are to evaluate 20,000 pages of emails from a liar and criminal. This is why education matters.
