People are being deported without due process. This should never happen. This puts all of us in danger.

By law, you can request asylum within one year of entering the country. But again, as a voting citizen, I support changing our immigration laws so that there is no such thing as being here illegally.

Hmm, if these workers were allowed to live here legally and were allowed to bring their families here, then maybe more of the money they earn here would also be spent here. You think?
December 16, 2025 at 11:00 PM
That said, I still support having border security and vetting people... which is how I entered this conversation. We can do this without discriminatory laws against living here just because you weren't born here or can't afford to "pay to play." It should be a simple, fast, and painless process.
December 16, 2025 at 10:57 PM
People are people. I don't care where they were born. I care that they follow laws designed to protect us from being harmed by each other. Living next-door to me does not harm me. Having to deal with the military roaming our streets and threatening to assault anyone who "looks foreign" does.
December 16, 2025 at 10:51 PM
I support changing our laws. There should be no law against entry and no such thing as "here illegally." If you've committed an actual crime, beyond "trespassing" onto U.S. soil (which shouldn't even be a violation), then you should suffer the same consequences anyone else would under our laws.

Whether or not you think it's logical, the FACT is that - per the IRS - undocumented immigrants pay BILLIONS in income taxes every single year. So you might try to understand why, but there's not much sense in arguing the logic of it, as though that would make it true or false. It just is.
December 16, 2025 at 10:25 PM
Bills have been proposed by members of Congress that would provide a pathway to citizenship to some undocumented immigrants under certain conditions, including having paid income taxes. If one of these bills eventually passes, it will benefit those who have paid their federal taxes.

People who are going through our legal processes and are showing up to their scheduled appointments are being physically assaulted, detained, and deported. It is legal to request asylum, and the only way you can do it is by coming here FIRST. This administration does not care about our laws.
December 16, 2025 at 10:12 PM
People are people, no matter what country they were born in. Everyone residing in our country should have the same legal protections and be provided the same due process.
December 16, 2025 at 9:21 PM
ITIN is for people who, for whatever reason, don't have a social security number with which to file their taxes - whether or not they have authorization to work in our country. BTW, isn't it funny how the same people who complain about "people wanting handouts" complain about WORKING.
December 16, 2025 at 9:17 PM
People who are undocumented and are working *without permission* are still able to pay taxes on the money they've earned.
December 16, 2025 at 9:14 PM
U.S. citizens are being forced to show their papers to thugs who hide their own identities - and still frequently find themselves violently assaulted & even locked up. U.S. citizens are living in fear while our military is used against us, in our own neighborhoods, in violation of our constitution.
December 16, 2025 at 9:10 PM
That's awesome.
December 16, 2025 at 8:40 PM
I'm not opposed to borders based on varying systems of government. I'm opposed to telling people where they're allowed to live. Your comparisons are still poor ones. We should all be able to live peacefully in any country, placing ourselves under that country's legal authority while there.
December 16, 2025 at 8:38 PM
I was thinking that removing all negative consequences would make people less likely to undergo vetting before entering the country. But then I considered the fact that truly bad actors are going to avoid vetting no matter the potential penalties, and they're the only reason I care about vetting.🙍‍♀️
December 16, 2025 at 8:31 PM
This is not a valid comparison. We can lock the doors to our houses - our personal spaces - if we want to. This Earth belongs to all of us.

"Okay ... What about Income tax."

Undocumented immigrants pay billions in income taxes every year. They pay even more into Social Security, a program they'll likely never be eligible to benefit from.

Or... we could spend less money on rounding people up and use it, instead, to hire more immigration judges which would, in turn, result in less illegal immigration as legal pathways become more accessible. We can keep paying people to endlessly mop up water, or we can pay for real solutions.
December 16, 2025 at 7:28 PM
I mostly agree with your take. But I believe border security and vetting are necessary, which naturally results in laws that forbid entering our country without permission. Immigrants also tend to be more vulnerable and need to be protected from exploitation & offered assistance with transitioning.
December 16, 2025 at 7:14 PM
The main reason I support border security & vetting is because it helps to protect those who have come here seeking asylum from persecution in the countries they've fled. If we'd invest in making this an easy & relatively quick process, people would be much more likely to take the legal path.

Here, Peter Thiel admits that the reason he supported Trump & Vance is because he believed they would be disruptive agents. He WANTS the type of crisis that would allow our form of government - and society itself - to be torn down and completely reshaped.

For us somewhat older folks... Rosanne turned out to be a huge disappointment on so many levels. I actually liked the show when I was a kid (like comfort food). So many fond memories forever tarnished.
