I think that could be one of the reasons why he gets more vicious and resentful of Angel like u said and I bet at least at first he thought he was "helping" Angel

will become a "diamond" (horrible like him) because the idea of someone who came out the other side of everything HE was put through a better person is confusing and infuriating (even if it's just on a subconscious level). It almost comes across as Angel being arrogant and judgemental even though

And I think this shows in the way he sometimes presents himself as a sexual object or even a commodity. It makes sense to me that that was how he managed to keep himself safe or sane in the past, and how he managed to gain power, so he easily slips back into that role almost as a reflex

I think it makes him dismissive of the pain he puts them through because he had the guts to climb his way to the top where he could protect himself and they can't do that so they're nothing
