The only role I feel sorry for are the cooks and housekeepers and cab drivers and small business owners; it’s never people like Steve Wynn who go broke in these situations. On the other hand, if any of the above-mentioned folks voted for Trump? Actions have consequences.

I like to chop a bit of ham and onion into the pot with a can of beans, add a good shake of smoked paprika and serve it forth with garlic toast or a homemade cheese biscuit. It’s food for the soul on a cold, grey day.

I’ve done the same, but with the addition of a blob of lightly sweetened cream cheese at the bottom.

I totally get it; there have been years I loved the season, and years, more recently, when I just wanted to plug my ears and sleep through the whole thing. I find it helps to help someone else, to try to let go of expectations, and to realize (thanks, Mike!) I’m not the only one who feels this way.

I am deeply saddened that we do not have a giant bologna in our local parade, especially given how many Newfoundlanders live in Alberta. Mad respect to St. John’s!
