Im personally of the mind that you can find a use for most minis in most armies if youre creative & lenient w/ equipment so Id always prefer to paint cool stuff even if its "unplayable" or whatever. But your mileage may vary

100%. It also can be an impediment to making cool art, which, hot take, is the opposite of the goal of miniature wargaming rules. Some restrictions can be fantastic for creativity, but one of the most fun parts of making art (as gaming pieces or not) is knowing when you can and should break rules

I used to be very strict WYSIWYG but imo its just about matching general vibe rather than specific equipment. As long as the model (or squad, depending on scale) looks cool and I can tell it apart from similar ones, I'm happy & thats all I expect from my opponents as well
