Actually, these guys called it 20 years ago: if the power elite admits some women and some POC, it shores up the legitimacy of the power elite itself. If you're an old enough teacher, you might recall saying there's racism & sexism and being met w: "What about Oprah though?"

+ "Highly private merito-aristocracy?" The "merito" is a self-congratulatory announcement that they're not being elitist+racist+sexist any more. But the "aristo" acknowledges that US wealth concentration ➡️ antidemocratic plutocracy, cf @chuck77.bsky.social & @nickhanauer.bsky.social.
